Sometimes you get an author who is terrible at writing but great at telling a story. This author is bad at both.

What a thrilling ride this was. I read the book in one sitting. Couldn't put it down. No Way Back by J. B. Turner is the first book by this author I have ever read and it sure is not the last. This book is also the first in a brand new series about NYPD detective Jack McNeal. I love the characters and the storyline. The book is well written and fast paced with one revelation after the other. We also get to deal with what is ok morally. I am so pleased that I took a chance to try this book and author and will look forward to the next insallment in this series. While I wait I have time to read some of his other work. I must thank @netgalley @amazonpublishing and #ThomasAndMercer for giving me this advance copy. of #NoWayBack and of course #JBTurner for writing

Conspiracies are interesting, and I was interested to see how this one would play out. But, the ending was not satisfying, the dialogue was often annoying, and several parts just didn't make sense.
(I think I got this one free as an Amazon First Reads.)

I came to have Jack O’Neal in my cue as an Amazon first read and selected it for both its content and the series concept. I often want to stay with characters and one story just isn’t enough. Unfortunately, this was a bit too much series. It felt like a lot of it was set up for the next book and I felt the ending left too much undone, likely for the next novel.

I did enjoy Jack and his brother, Peter and their dad. I felt their closeness and bond and empathized with their struggles. I’m not sure Jack’s changes are as believable as they could be and I also wasn’t that invested in him to be saddened, as I should have been, by the change. I will likely reach out for book two because I do want to know what happens. I only wish I didn’t have to start a second novel for complete closure

Goh, ik was er wel snel door wat meestal ook iets wil zeggen maar … meh. Nee, dit was het niet.

I enjoyed so much this new instalment of the series and I really felt bad for our main character and what he had to go through.
Looking forward to read the next ones

I picked this book out as one of my Amazon first reads, and after getting through it... I really wish I'd picked something else.
Some readers may enjoy this book, but it just wasn't for me. The story is remarkably simple and straightforward, the characters shallow, the dialogue stiff and robotic at times. The heel-turn from bereaved by-the-books cop to ruthless anti-hero is way too quick and does nothing for me. The synopsis sounds so interesting, and I'm sure a different writer could make a lot out of this story. But the writing does not live up to the story hes trying to tell. I just didn't enjoy this book.

This one is like a classic tv drama crime show. Was entertaining at times but very predictable. I would say it’s an easy read. I know this is part of a series but the ending didn’t feel very satisfying. The ending just felt like unnecessary violent revenge to IMO the wrong person. I guess you could say this is the main characters decent into what he despises.

It felt like nothing was happening except setting up for a series. I regret not putting the book down at 40%. While the ending was unexpected, it was our of character and never felt like a resolution.
