Absolutely unhinged… oh my god… I had to take breaks because this book was WILD. Everytime I thought it was done tossing curves, I’d be hit with news ones. Overall enjoyed, wine is a must and a therapy session afterwards lol

Honestly one of the strangest books I’ve ever read, but in a good way. The spicy bits got a bit much and the ending wrapped up too quickly, but overall it was fun and different.
challenging dark mysterious tense

Some vague spoilers below.
Probably one of the worst books I've ever read, but definitely my worst books of the year so far. And I had no issues with the smut. It was the lack of plot and absolutely atrocious Mary-Sue main character Tem. Caspen grated on my nerves almost as much but not as much (maybe because he had no personality to speak of) as Tem who went from: "I don't want to do this and why on earth would you ever expect me to do it" to "oh you don't want me to do this?/you don't think I can? Well then now I do wanna do it" in pretty much every other scene. Being able to write auch an immature and unlikable is really a feat in itself.
Leo deserved better and was probably the most interesting character but still felt pretty stereotypical and could've been fleshed out more.
Gabriel the gay comic sidekick who kissed Tems cheek in every interaction they had contributed basically nothing to the story.

All of the dialogue was genuinely bad, no character had a distinct voice and the back and forth that was supposed to be funny/enganging/bantery just fell flat on every turn.

DID NOT FINISH

Point? What point? More smut than plot. The writing was atrocious. I couldn't finish it.

This book was so unhinged but it was also so good!
The political intrigue the romance the relationship between the human world and the basilisks was so well done. Great example of a 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ book that had a great plot.

2.5⭐️ which is generous. The only reason it gets that many is because I didn’t want to put it down because it was like watching a train wreck in real time.
To start, the writing is atrocious, inconsistent, and lacking. I’m not new to the monster romance genre but this was down right terrible. No character development, an underdeveloped plot, gaping plot holes. There was no reason for this to be 500 pages.
The only good thing about this book was the bonus non-canon scene and the sprayed edges of the edition I own.
This books took hours from my life that I’ll never get back.

This was so crazy 😅
