I like the general direction of this book.  I think her fundamental thesis that you should surround yourself with things that bring you joy is fantastic.  However, when it comes to more specific tips on how to keep your house I think she sets expectations that are unrealistic.

The idea is simple and without doubt effective. But the strategies presented are very absolute and don‘t acquire for any personal circumstances she might not have experienced herself, like financial problems or living with physical or mental disabilities. The ideas presented are nice and surely effective. But the strategies are not thought through and barely explained and if so, just by personal opinion / experience. E.g. there is a very clear system for everything, except for papers, there she states you can be lazy and the mere reason presented for this is that she personally doesn‘t like to do papers. It is a nice and inspiring read, but barely is there any objective reasoning or foundation past her personal opinions and as she presents her strategies as the one and only way, you are left feeling guilty if you need accomodations or changes for something. I‘d say you‘re better of watching the show, to be honest.

I've been meaning to tidy my room, and I wanted to check out anything Marie Kondo had to offer. I found her method simple and straightforward, and I can't wait to try it out on my bedroom.

The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because some of the assertions made seemed a bit far-fetched, and sometimes the writing seemed a bit too ad-like in its "this will absolutely work!" messaging. It wasn't inherently bad, assuming that's how other self-help books are (I dunno, I don't really read them), but it just didn't jive with me.

I'm still really happy to get started on my bedroom, though 😌
