made me think about cleaning differently. takeaways:
  • messiness is morally neutral—you aren’t a good or bad person for being clean or messy. therefore, shame is not helpful in this situation. having self compassion is helpful
  • your house serves you; you don’t serve your house. in other words, cleaning is done so your house can be functional for your life
  • “care tasks” not “chores.” care tasks are a kindness to future and present you.
  • “on ramp” skill - find the smallest task you can do to on-ramp onto a bigger task. e.g., do 3 minutes instead of 5. if you don’t reach your goal, then you know you need a lower on ramp.
  • “good enough is perfect” - anything worth doing is worth doing partway
