This book had a lot of 'Wait, what?' moments. Like I should understand what was going on, but I didn't.
First things first, there are way too many named characters. I know this series builds off another previously released series. Maybe it feels good to loyal readers to hear mention of all the beloved characters, but I would argue that only the most necessary ones should have been included. There were 7 siblings of the MCs alone that I couldn't keep straight. Nevermind all the Chicago characters.
There were also a lot of missed opportunities in this book. Why didn't Dantè hear Bridget's truth directly from her? It was a moment the story built up to and then her dad tells him? Lame.
And for the love, I still don't know why the villains made her go back to New York! What on earth was their motivation for that? Did I miss something?
The repeated time jumps. The sudden appearance of BDSM from out of nowhere. The suspicious dad. The loose canon brother. It was all just a jumbled mess when I know for a fact, it could have been amazing. The author can write great angst. They just need to capitalize on it.
I'll neither recommend or discourage this one.

It's not as spicy as I was anticipating and it had some darker events, but the way they were written about didn't feel genuine. I think the author was probably trying to keep it from getting too dark and if that was her goal, she succeeded, but as a reader, it felt manufactured and ingenuine to both the themes and the character. That being said, the parts that read that way weren't frequent and I was (for the most part) entertained.

Toxic is yet another captivating continuation of her Mafia Wars Series - a roller coaster of intense and raw emotions, powerful drama and suspense.
Bridget and Dante's epic love story, spanning over 2 decades, is a riveting tale of endless love, sacrifice, courage and is beautifully well written.
I am awe of how MC intricately and masterfully intertwined this continuing mafia wars series. I love how dark and edgy Toxic is, but still so passionate and heartfelt.
