surprislingly i really enjoyed this, although i am not a big fan of short story collections and tried and failed to get into the bane chronicled before this.
the strongest parts were (in my opinion) the stories that focused on parabatais. ive always appreciated that parabatais were always perceived as least as important as romantic relationships for shadowhunters and goddamn did this book have a good collection of parabatais! ive really enjoyed seeing james herondale and robert lightwood with their parabatais and it made me really excited for tlh trilogy.
i did always like simons style of narration and i did enjoy him dealing with his memory loss and him feeling really split apart from his "other self" and his tmi friends as a result of that. however, im still not sure if i think that part was executed well.
now onto the things i disliked:
-isabelle and simons relationship, i just cant get myself to like them, its not that i hate them, i just dont care
-this was unnecessarily long at times (while i did enjoy the banter between the new characters, thereās no reason to spread them across up to 3 pages sometimes, cmon)
-tmi randomly appearing at the academy (especially that one scene where isabelle goes out of her way to tell the class to keep their habds off simon cause he belongs to her? brother ew) except for the malec chapter i did actually, the whole family turning up actually worked there
overall you could tell this was used as a "filler", but i had a good time with it and will definitely do a reread one day

So, yeah. I'm sobbing. But I'm no stranger to sobbing when it comes to Cassandra Clare books. Each of the stories was amazing and beautiful.

Wonderful. This collection of short stories was a perfect companion to the ending of City Of Heavenly Fire. It gave the reader insight into all the characters futures and many character's pasts which was also very interesting. It was also an amazing experience to read an entire novel from Simon's point of view as he was one of my favorite characters in the Mortal Instruments series.

I was hesitant to start this, since I had previously started Ghosts of the Shadow Market and been thoroughly uninterested, but I actually ended up LOVING this collection of short stories. I feel like the stories in this book really did add a lot to my experience in the shadowhunter world, and I wish I had read it before I read the Dark Artifices.
