Neil Gaiman’s retelling of Norse myths is just brilliant! He manages to translate eclectic works of prose and poetry into a single, somewhat cohesive modern work without sacrificing the cold, wry, and often bawdy humor of these peoples. Whenever an obscure term is used, he will state the term and then provide an in-text definition or explanation that keeps the wonder of a foreign language without sacrificing readability. And his own narrations bring the characters to life, you can really tell he knows his work well.
