This was a really wonderful novella! I enjoyed the world and the characters, and the training scenes and everything. I think the ending could have been drawn out a little more though, and with much more depth. It felt rushed and superficial. I still loved it though, and would love to see more of it!

Fonda Lee world-class writing and an excellent story always leaves me speechless. When you have such a high level of excitement going into a book, it’s very hard to temper your expectations and not be disappointed. But from page one, I fell in love with this book. I was so captivated by the pages that I felt I was turning the pages too fast and devoured every single words off it. To conclude, I would simply say that this book should be on everyone's TBR. A great read, at the end strong emotions are stirred and I just wish it was full length book.

Pretty awesome how a story under 200 pages could encompass the cycle of love, loss, and starting anew.
Also making the rocs be captive animals who will still respond to their natural desires over that of the human training is so good. There's something about breaking the trope of person with mystic/fantastic animal creates an unbreakable bond and live happily ever after that I both love and hurts me right in my girlhood dreams. HAHA
