A bland, unsatisfying conclusion to a novel told entirely in verse. I didn't feel invested in her story, and the ending didn't feel remotely satisfying.

What a wonderful follow up to Shark Girl, sharing how life isn't easy and choices are difficult but perseverance is what it is all about.

Formerly Shark Girl
Kelly Bingham
This book was about a girl and her life after she got attacked by a shark. She makes a bucket list for her plans to do before College. She can't decide if she wants to be a artist or a nurse. Over the time she spent during senior year, she finally decides what she wants to do.
I thought this book was similar to the Soul Surfer. The book got very interesting when she ran into the boy she used to like. This was toward the middle of the book. After that she really started getting into the most important parts of the book (choosing a college, going back to the water for the first time, etc).
I would recommend Formerly Shark Girl to girls ages 10-14. If they are interested in fiction books.

A lovely follow up to Shark Girl. Another clean novel in verse with the occasional letter or dialogue thrown in among the poems. Lots of introspection and character growth, but nothing too heavy-handed or unrealistic.

Formerly Shark Girl is a book about Jane’s life and many decisions after a shark attack that took her arm. Nursing school or art school? The story was poetic, beautiful, and bittersweet.

Book # 45 Read in 2014
Formerly Shark Girl by Kelly Bingham (YA)

This is the sequel to the young adult verse novel Shark Girl, which was a great read. #2 does not disappoint. The author states that she wrote this book because so many readers wanted to know what happened to the main character, Jane, after Shark Girl ended. In this book, Jane has learned how to cope fairly well with the loss of her arm. Her art talent is starting to come back. She has begun to volunteer at her local hospital and is trying to decide between the career paths of art teacher or nurse. She is finishing up her senior year and has made a sort of bucket list for herself.

Again told in verse format, this book is a good, quick read. It has humor, romance and is just real. Jane is a survivor. Secondary characters like Justin, Rachel and Max are interesting and well developed. I enjoyed it.

Girl's arm has been eatten by shark. She must go on with her life. How does she decide where she wants to go to college? How does she deal with her mom's new dating life? How does she deal with boys?

This book was neither overly awesome or overly awful.
