okay i read this really fast so it was very entertaining— but was it actually good? that’s a different question.
colleen hoover does not do subtle. she beat me over the head with every single theme or message she wanted the reader to take away. atlas and lily’s internal monologues also made absolutely sure i wouldn’t miss anything either bc god forbid coho trusts her readers. the characters were so one dimensional it was silly. atlas is perfect (considerate atlas), ryle is jealous and angry, and sutton is just awful. i never once had to use a single brain cell to process what was going on— to the point where i was able to listen and contribute to conversations while also reading a decent amount. i felt like the writing of the “plot” was lazy because there rly wasn’t much there besides the main storyline which felt like something that she wrote in last minute when she realized she wanted a sequel (bc she definitely did).
that being said: did i enjoy it?
absolutely.
this woman has a way of writing mid stories that for some reason i can’t put down. THE WRITING ISN’T EVEN GOOD. so many sentences make me CRINGE HARD but that doesn’t stop me. you would have had to PRY this ugly ass covered book out of my hands these past 24 hours to get me to put it down.
so i give her credit where credits is due.

Don’t get me wrong - I enjoyed reading this , but it was so unnecessary. The way “It Ends With Us” was great, but I feel like It Starts With Us was just an unnecessary addition and a cash grab.

Ik dacht ik blijf even in het thema partnergeweld (zie de vorige boeken die ik gelezen heb), maar dan even wat luchtigers. Dat was het zeker. Maar het was ook gewoon best wel slecht, maar dat betekent niet dat het niet vermakelijk was. Vind het wel leuk dat er nu closure is en I love Atlas, dus soms heb ik ook wel wat gesmuld, maar verder heb ik vooral gecringed. Vind het ook na de vorige boeken die ik gelezen heb wel lastig om te lezen hoe Ryle nog geaccepteerd wordt en een rol speelt in het leven van Emmerson, nu mag iedereen eigen keuzes maken enzo, maar een beetje verheerlijking vind ik het wel. Al met al, niet zozeer een must-read, ik kan het ook in 1 minuut voor je samenvatten xx

I loved getting a chance to dive deeper into Atlas’ past. He’s literally perfect. I loved him in the first book, and this book just took it to a whole other level. The patience and understanding this man has for Lily is EVERYTHING!
“If it takes a million kisses for her not to not think about the scars that surround her heart tattoo, then I’ll kiss her there a million and one times.”
There’s something about a second chance romance that makes me unbelievably giddy!! Two people reconnecting, and learning about each other all over again after YEARS apart. The memories that resurface, the familiarity of the conversations and feelings… BEAUTIFUL!

The meaning behind “It Starts With Us.” The way my jaw dropped...
I think what I love most about these two books, is that the romance is not the main focus. These books are about healing. It’s about strength and perseverance.
This was such a full circle moment, and it was much needed. This was the ending we needed for Lily and Atlas.

I know CoHo is a touchy author for some peeps, but, I read this fuckin book in 1 day. I couldn’t put it down LMAO. This duet was so good to me. I’m considering not watching “It Starts With Us” because I don’t wanna be disappointed hahahah.
