I really enjoyed this. I went in expecting a goofy, hallmarky romcom but got a sweet, heartwarming story about a woman rediscovering joy. I liked the side characters, I loved the MC and the love interest was sweet and believable. If Hallmark took the "Stardew Valley" game and swapped a farm for a cafe, this is what you'd get.
It’s like part Hallmark movie-part Gilmore Girls with its sweet story, quirky characters and bunches of small town festivities. I enjoyed it.
This is a very cozy book! I too dream of running away to a seaside cabin, starting a little coffee shop, and starting a book club. It was absolutely delightful to read about how the whole town functioned and how they cared for each other. Each character was a delight to read (especially the women in the book club). This is like a balm for the soul and will certainly cheer up anyone who is in a funk.
I rate simply: 5 = liked it, 3 = meh, and 1 = didn't like it.
Cozy, easy read-kind like Bridget Jones but not as funny but just as entertaining
Perfectly cromulent. I didn't enjoy it as much as [b:The Twelve Dates of Christmas|50608051|The Twelve Dates of Christmas|Jenny Bayliss|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1584523194l/50608051._SX50_.jpg|68964488], which is a bummer. This is the story of Annie; she runs a restaurant with her husband, but catches him cheating. So naturally she winds up with a short-term lease on a cottage by the sea (that conveniently has space for a tea room!). She learns about the quirky little town, quickly forms a book club, and winds up flirting with the nephew of the cottage's owner.
The story itself is enjoyable (though perhaps a few too many characters? I kept getting them mixed up), but the pacing is really off. There's a whole sequence of Annie in a hotel in the immediate aftermath of finding her husband; at one point, she says something about settling things, but there's no discussion of why she chooses to walk away from her house and restaurant instead of kicking her ex out. Instead, it's multiple (short) chapters in which little happens. I generally don't mind short chapters, but I felt like a lot of them could be edited down and combined. For the most part, I don't need one vignette to take many chapters. One longer chapter is fine!
Not a bad read, but I'm hoping her next hits me more like Twelve Dates.
