I cannot express enough how much you MUST listen to this on audiobook. It is an arresting piece of audio artwork that grabbed me by the throat and didn't let go.

Tagaq is a renowned Inuit throat singer and she does so throughout this book, delivering an incredible performance that weaves through elements of her life in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, Inuit folklore, and magical realism.

I listen to audiobooks typically on my commute and am amazed I didn't miss my turns or get into an accident from being so enthralled. It's raw, visceral, beautiful, and uncomfortable at times. I loved every second of its meditation on life and the girl's coming-of-age in a remote place touched by the forces of colonialism, violence, love, and nature.
