An ebook short story from M.J. Arlidge.

Jodie's arriving at her third children's home. She's only fifteen.
Maybe this time will be different. She'll be safe. Looked after.

But the truth is Jodie has no one left to protect her.
She must defend herself. She must change.

This is a prequel to the Helen Grace series, and covers Helen's time in a children's home immediately following the death of her parents. It goes a long way to explain why she is the way she is and how she ended up joining the police and becoming a detective.

An interesting short read (about 50 pages or so) and can be read at any time during the series.

And so it begins

This novella precedes in time Eeny Meeny. It explains some of the background of Helen Grace. I enjoyed this quick read, not as good as the full length books though

It is a 15-minute read so not much happens but it was alright

Fast-paced and pretty dark, even for Arlidge. Definitely a valuable little addition to the series.

This was a good short book to help the reader understand the past of Helen Grace.
