probably the best book i’ve read all year i absolutely could not put it down i thought it would take me longer as it’s almost 500 pages but i was reading at least 100 a day because of how good it was also i deadass did not pay attention to the authors name so when i got to the end and saw it was real (or at least a fictional account of her real family) i was shocked

Wasn't really drawn in to the story. Knew it would be sad and didn't feel compelled to continue.

This was a very moving and engaging read, starting with a mysterious postcard the author’s mother received with only the 4 names of relatives who had been killed in the holocaust written on it. While this is certainly a heavy book, it was less intense than other first person experiences or fictionalized novels I have read because it is told in third person, almost journalistically.

The first half tells the story of the family members who died. The second half is the author trying to find out who sent the postcard and why, but meanwhile is exploring her own relationship to her family heritage. Excellent on audio because this takes place in France so the French is pronounced correctly, as well as some other quotes in other languages.
