The journey finally ends, and at good timing, too! I was beginning to think Lief was falling into some sort of belt-dependancy, it almost seemed like the Belt of Deltora was a type of drug one can easily get addicted to.
In retrospect, the entire series was about a boy with a magical belt that made him feel like he could do a lot of things he shouldn't be able to. A load of hogwash, I'm sure Lief could have solved the puzzles and thought through the problems just fine without the need for touching the precious belt's gemstones. But hey, if he feels better with his teddy bear, who am I to judge?
I liked the imagery concocted regarding the dragons. I've always loved dragons, and 7 of them all working together to fight a threatening presence has this majestic feel to it. It's as if you're looking at the sky and discovering that each color of the rainbow has taken shape and grown wings. I dunno, but it was pretty in my head.
The only other thing that amused me was the Shadow Lord himself. He had plans within plans within plans. I honestly wasn't sure whether the series was gonna end or not in the book until Rodda actually wrote an epilogue. But it did, and we finally see the end of terror...at least temporarily. Evil never dies, after all.

RATING: 4.5 stars
Loved this series so much! Loved the addition of dragons (since dragons are my fav) and how the storyline was put together, weaving them into the whole plot. Emily Rodda (did you know that's actually a pen name) did a fantastic job creating this series, just like all the others. Even though I struggled to remember some characters since I read the previous two series such a long time ago (about 7 years!) it was written in such a way that I still felt included and had enough information to still understand what was going on.
Not much more to say other than; I'm off to read her next series, Star of Deltora! where I'm sure we will discover the Shadow Lord's next evil plan.
"the Enemy is clever and sly... to its anger and envy a thousand years is like the blink of an eye"

(p.s. I loved the short chapter showing what had become of Lief, Barda & Jasmine and their children)"the Enemy is clever and sly... to its anger and envy a thousand years is like the blink of an eye"

My kids are devastated that we have come to the end. This was a wonderfully entertaining series for all of us.
My sister lives south of me, so I guess she is The Sister of the South, but anyway this is not about her, and this is the final of finals of finals as the Deltora Quest finally comes to a conclusion and we are quested out.

THIS IS HOW YOU END A SERIES. that's it, that's the review.
I absolutely love this entire three-series saga. The first Deltora Quest series was a huge part of my childhood and development of my love of reading, and I'm so glad I discovered the next two series as an adult just to appreciate the intricacies. This final book (book 15 in the entire saga) packs so much into it. Disaster, intrigue, worry, plague, poison, dragons, sabotage, riddles, SO MANY TWISTS, resolved "plot holes", teamwork, character endings, quest endings... it just brings me so much joy. I would go so far to say this is the best book in the Deltora Quest saga.
