I read this before the Runaway Wife so in the wrong order but it didn't really matter. This time we get more adventures with Connie going overseas with two female friends three years after the first book. They travel through France and Italy in a campervan of sorts, meeting people on the way. Also, Connie wanted to find out more about her Italian roots. There was a stupid subplot about stolen money from a bank robbery that ended up being taken along by Maggie, whilst her boyfriend Ringer (just the name alone gives me hives) is going after them, trying to retrieve it. For that, I took off 0.5 star. Oh, and for the fact that authors still think in bookland every Brit can just decide to live in the EU as before. I know this is fiction, but come on, go with the times.
I didn’t hate this book, but i didn‘t love this book either. It was a quick fluff read. I did enjoy reading about the friendships these ladies developed while traveling and it made me want to travel to some of the places they visited! It reminded me that you are never to old to enjoy life!
Happy Publication Day! The Getaway Girls in a funny, feel good summer read for 2018! This is a story about three women in there sixties with one big adventure ahead of them to Italy! Its going to be a bumpy ride…
This story is bound to get those page turning and have you laughing out loud in parts! I enjoyed every second of it. Well written, brilliant characters and easy to read. It made me want to go on a trip myself! Haha. These ladies who hardly know each other slowly become bestfriends. A heart warming, hilarious in parts story.
I awarded four stars and would recommend this to you. Read brilliantly as a standalone as I do believe a previous character was in another book written by this author which I didn’t even realise until I wrote this review!

The story is pretty much what it looks like from the cover. Three friends, around age 70, take a trip together. One of their ex-boyfriends is trying to find them which adds some excitement to the plot. It's an easy, fun read, but would probably appeal more to those retired.
The Getaway Girls is an unexpected while also very expected story about three aging women reclaiming their lives through a cross-continent road trip.
Honestly this one was a bit forgettable for me. I also didn’t relate to the characters very well (maybe the focus on being “old” made it hard for me?) I also didn’t totally love the characters’ mindset on beauty and husbands.

This one is a struggle for me. Some of the story was good but I had some major issues with the writing.
Connie McColl may have family in Italy. At almost 70 years old she decides to impulsively buy and RV and drive to find out for sure. Somehow she gets ropped into bringing along two somewhat strangers with her.
Things the book did right. I want to travel so hard after putting this book down. MacDonald navigate the "girls" from the UK through France and Italy and I want it all. The friendship built between the three women was lovely as well even if at time over written.
What this book did wrong. I have never seen so many words emphasized in my life. It was off-putting to say the least. Strike 1. There were some derogatory statements directed at Italians. Strike 2. There are also some very large stretches in believability. Most of this involves the Ringer plot line. Although, some had to do with how the women interacted with each other. I understand the importance of having some threat or villain to make a story interesting but too much of it was unbelievable. Strike 3.
All in all as much as I liked the travel element and the concept of the story, everything else was a hard miss for me.
