I won't lie I read this in like 4ish hours, I was somehow hooked and could not put it down. I would pay attention to the content warnings though.
The book majorly sped up on the last 50%, the first 50% was still good though!

This book does have its issues which I'll try to sum up:
  • Alex is kinda stalkerish and gives off creepy vibes. Even more so in the last 50%
  • The singing scene was... uncomfortable to read.
  • This book is leaning quite heavily on the fact you would read the next one, this can't be read as a stand-alone.
  • At times to me it felt like I was reading a Twilight fanfiction.

It's not good, but it's like watching a train wreck- can't really look away even though you know you should.

A well written bad story. But that's what I get for trusting the overhyped side of BookTok.

It's fast paced and well written so it was a quick and entertaining read but both Alex and Ava made me want to puke. Their love story doesn't have as much love as it does possessiveness and abuse. By the end of it, I was rooting against Alex. At times the plot twists were a little too twisted but at least the book lived up to its name.

"It's what humans seek from the time we are born until we draw our last breath. It's more powerful than any other emotion we feel. It can cause unlimited damage and pain, but it can also be our savior."

"Most people thought the biggest sacrifice they could make was to die for something. They were wrong. The biggest sacrifice someone could make was to live for something-to allow it to consume you and turn you into a version of yourself you didn't recognize"

It was really cringe and I get it's suposted to be a sunshine x grumpy but Alex was just mean and rude and not just "grumpy".

this is probably the horniest book ive ever read 😭. i had some issues with it, not just with what some of the characters (alex) did but with how it was executed. seemed like with everything that was packed in, it should have been longer, maybe a little more fleshed out? as for the character’s actions, at some point i surrendered to fiction bc it really is just a book and hopefully there arent any young/impressionable ppl reading this thinking its okay act the way alex does.
the only one of the series i really had an interest in was the third book, but i thought i would read this one first as josh and jules are extremely close with alex and ava. but ofc now im a teeny bit interested in the second book so sigh

Ava doesn't feel like a real human being and Alex is a misogynist who treats women like sex toys so really lovely, non-problematic combination here!

The book description was accurate in describing the male lead as an alphahole. I don't mind that in and of itself. What I did mind was that it does not feel like Alex redeems himself or has enough character growth to merit Ava accepting him as a partner by the end of the story. He overrides Ava's autonomy before they are an item. This often comes off as sexist and possessive rather than endearing. He even partakes in stalking at some point as a way of protecting Ava which read very 50 Shades of Grey creepy rich stalker to me. He causes Ava a lot of heartbreak at the climax of the story and I have a hard time believing that he could rebuild a sense of trust in their relationship after everything that happens. He just never won me over and I feel like he could have if his actions were not so unhealthy to me. I didn't mind his possessiveness in the sex scenes because it was consensual, but otherwise it just left a bad taste in my mouth. What I liked the most was Ava's friends and how supportive they were of her. I also liked Ava's personality and just felt she deserved a better partner. Overall, this was disappointing.
