My dad would like this.
This story was so sweet and at times so sad. I really enjoyed reading it with my 10 year old. I loved that there was so much factual information at the beginning of each chapter, and so did my child, who was actually learning about the brain earlier this year!
The book features a MC with a scary-good memory, and a grandma with a failing one. Our MC sets out in a mission, soon bringing in her room best friends, to recover her grandma's memory, but in doing so, stirs up a lot about the past that her grandmother had worked hard to bury. Is our MC going too far, and will she end up doing more harm than good?
Definitely recommend this book! Two thumbs up!!

I'd never heard of this book until yesterday, when my mom brought it back from the library. It came out earlier this year, and it was pretty good.
CONS OF THE MEMORY KEEPER
There's mention of divorce in this book, because one of the side character's parents are probably going to get one. It's dealt with in a way that shows that it's bad, which was good, but I thought I'd mention that.
There's a lot of lying in this book. It's portrayed in a way that seems to make it okay. There also was a lot of sneaking into other people's computers, using other people's phones, and just general things that didn't exactly make the characters great role models.
PROS OF THE MEMORY KEEPER
I've always wanted to write a book about a character with amnesia, so I was pretty interested in this book. I found it interesting to also read about someone with perfect memory.
It's also kind of educational; every chapter starts with a tidbit of knowledge on the brain.
The font was big, so it was a nice read that was quick to get through.
I actually couldn't tell exactly how the story was going to end. That means that it was a really well-written mystery.
The cover looks pretty cool.
OVERALL
I enjoyed this book. There was a little bit of content that would make me say that younger readers should probably wait on it (such as abuse) but other than that, it was a pretty great story.

The Memory Keeper is a wonderful novel about a young girl with an incredible memory. Lulu, the main character, is dealing with a grandmother who is battling Alzheimer's as well as parents who seem to have forgotten about her. As an adult reading this book, I struggled with the parents' treatment of Lulu and her brother. It definitely bordered on neglectful. However, the rest of the book was wonderful. The intrigue as Lulu and her friends try to uncover the truth about Lulu's grandmother's past kept me turning pages and trying to figure out what was really going on. I highly recommend this book for any elementary school library, and I will certainly purchase a copy for my school library when it becomes available. I anticipate it will be a popular one to check out. Thanks to NetGalley for the advance copy.
What an emotional journey this was! It was so heartfelt and deep and I absolutely loved it. I used to have an incredibly detailed memory and have since started to lose my ability to remember anything and I also have seen people that I love deal with Alzheimers. This book was the perfect balance of lighthearted and informative with the depth and emotion that was needed to show how things like Alzheimers and post-partum depression can hurts families so deeply. I highly recommend.
