Loved this sequel! I’m so excited to continue the series!

Wow where to start. This book was crazy. So many things happened my mind is still reeling from it all. I was happy to be back in the City of Sin but I do think this book was slower than the first one so it took me a while to finish. The ups and downs of Enne's and Levi's relationship have me very concerned for their ending.
And Jac's death! Oh no Jac. He didn't deserve to die. He went through all that hardship and overcame so many things just to die. I should have known something was up when we started getting more of his pov. Onto the list of fictional characters that deserved better. Why are authors so mean? :(

Holy Crap

This book man this book makes me mad.

It has been a while since I have felt so passionately about a book and it's so refreshing, especially since this feeling is towards a new series.

Ace of Shades does not prepare you for the events in King of Fools, not one bit.

I loved this book, not just because of the kick ass characters but also for the relationships it has. Yes there are forming relationships, but there are also ones that crumbled. Sometimes I get so tired of the main character ending up with the predictable character, but thank goodness that is not the case. Enne and Levi do love each other, but their relationship is full of lies and distrust.

King of Fools does have a lot more intrigue and strategy than Ace of Shades, but I love intrigue. The drama with Harrison and Vianca Augustine is rich and delicious, as is the new politics of a new character: Sophia Torren.

I cannot express how much I love this girl gang and Enne as a character. She is flawed, she is a pain in the butt, but she is feminine and is not afraid to own it. She breaks the stereotype that girls have to be masculine in order to be strong. Enne loves her pink and I love that about her. She is pushing the boundaries and isn't afraid to stand her ground and keep her principles even when her friends (Lola and Grace) discourage her and put her down for it. This is a girl power book and I am so happy to have been able to read it.

Something else that I really appreciate is that the relationships are not the sole purpose of the story, it's more something that just happens. Yes it adds another layer, but there is more going on than just the relationships between Enne and Levi or Jac and Sophia.

Once again, this book was marvelous and I have to have the next book!!! It left off at such a cliffhanger and now I will be thinking about the next book for a whole year!

3.5/5

Let's just say, everything went to shit.

I picked this one up right after AOS because I enjoyed Ace of Shades and the development of the characters together and apart. So I went into KOF thinking that maybe there would be more magic, less angst and turmoil, and more development of the plot. There wasn't. There was even more angst between Enne and Levi that, to be honest, was very unnecessary.

I did find that the book was too long and very slow at the beginning. Some parts could have been taken out of it, but overall it was a decent story. I was going to pick up Queen of Volts right after, but I think I'll give myself a break and see if I actually want to come back to it. I'm not sure I will.

What I Did Like:
+Very detailed and multi layered plan, which does make for an interesting story. It’s a lot to follow but it pays off in good ways.
+Enne really comes into her own in this book in a way that works. I wanted to see her be stronger in book 1 and you get that from her here.
+Diversity with no apologies. I love that.

Who Should Read This One:
-Fans of dystopian books with violence and crime will love this one. Add in a dash of slow burn romance and rival gangs and you have a recipe for success.
