A second chance romance that got it RIGHT!!
I loved going on this journey or rediscovery for Kaliya and Danny! There were a lot of faults between them both and the way they handled things in the past and present.
Their 1st reintroduction to each other i feel like Danny was trying to just get back in with Kaliya and he throughly fucked up by not confirming a position for her before giving her false hope. Kaliya was definitely holding on to the version of him she loved then and living in a slump of her own life. There was obviously a connection between them when they interacted you could feel the chemistry but it felt more like instant chemistry and less like 2nd chance love story.
The flashbacks were few and far between and they gave a glimpse into their past but really didn’t develop the chemistry of past lovers. Towards the end is where things started to pull together for me.
I loved getting to know his mom and hearing her speak about her grief and love and how Danny stepped up for her. She also gave Kaliya some insight into how she helped save Danny during his darkest time. I do wish we just dived deeper into their college relationship to fully flush out their current status.
Overall good quick read. You get slightly annoyed with both main characters for how they handle things and don’t handle things. But a very happy ending

What a rollercoaster of a romance! This was my first second-chance romance and my heart was tugged in all kinds of directions with the highs and lows that Kaliya and Danny went through. I absolutely love Kaliya and she can do no wrong. I highly enjoyed following her growth to standing up for herself and eventually others. Now Danny… I don’t believe he deserved all those chances Kaliya gave him. If I took a shot every time he said “Let me explain!” only to give a lame excuse, I’d be blackout drunk. The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 3 is because of what Kaliya chooses to do towards the end of the story. Maybe not everyone would agree with me but I think it was an excellent choice.
Anyway, read this if you want to read a romance about a woman who uses her determination to follow her dreams and overcome obstacles… and a man who is one of those obstacles.

I love second chance romance & I thought Danny + Kaliya’s story was really cute. I really wished we had gotten some of Danny’s feelings from his pov because it felt like at times Kaliya was doing more pining after him while his vibe was hot + cold for most of the book. I loved the social/racial issues this book touched on in the entertainment industry, as well as the friendship between Kaliya + Nehma. What would we do without good friends by our side?

So, I have very mixed feelings about this book. For instance, there were moments in the book that I loved and thought were emotionally beatuiful. HOWEVER, I really went back and forth with how I felt about the characters. I wanted our FMC to grow a backbone and not be so dependent on this past relationship and being ok with the crumbs our MMC left her. I wanted the MMC to step up and CHOOSE our FMC. Like honestly for him to be all about his parent’s beautiful love story but treat the FMC the way he did, it just didn’t make sense. And really this book was more of a third chance romance because it had my least favorite trope of a third act break up. 😭😭
