I got this in a blind date with a book and I don't think I would have picked it up otherwise because it is a second chance romance. The cover is gorgeous though! Points for that.
I didn't love the second chance aspect. I think you can be dumb in college and break up as they did because you're both incapable of having a conversation. But you can't have me root for you to get back together if you both are *STILL* not having a conversation. I also felt like Danny was treating Kaliya terribly at every turn. You are an adult. You don't get to treat someone that way and be hot and cold and have me root for you at all. Also you don't recognize your privilege and it's exhausting! I also didn't love the comically evil current girlfriend.
The depiction of race in movie production and gossip rags for PR felt real and those parts were fine? It was just never going to be for me because of the second chance and I recognize that's a me thing and other people will love it.

I really enjoyed the industry portion of the story.
But the romance left me wanting more. I think the book picked up at the wrong moment. We need more of the initial romance to be invested in the second chance.
