Some who went to boarding school Penny Vivienne felt very interesting. All interested. Not the best childhood. Could see where book ideas came from. Reviews 2@9 3@8 4@7 (S.5) 1 DR

Possibly because I did not know the writer or any of her works but I felt no attachment to the author at all. The style of writing was strange, sometimes attached other times the writer felt detached.
Very slow to get into.
And a bit too nostalgic in parts for myself as a reader to enjoy.

Very much enjoyed this brief memoir. The lack of love shown by her parents seems shocking when compared to today’s middle class standards, but she writes of all the joys she found despite this lack of affection.

I felt like this was written from an emotional distance and that this was as close as she wanted to draw her readers. It was cold and a little boring in contrast to her fabulous novels.
