I really enjoyrd the characters in this one, especially Marie. Flawed in unique and lovable ways built from who they are and their experiences. I also really enjoyed the Native American perspective, learning the realities of some of the situations in the book was interesting. I liked how the MC would remember things about the past and we'd get little snippets of stories of life on the reservation. At the middle of the book I was wondering where the plot was heading, it seemed to switch gears. But about 70 pages until the end it got super exciting and I could not put it down! Overall a unique thriller with crime, vigilante justice, and Lakota tradition aspects.
Poignant mystery that provides insight into Lakota culture and spirituality. Somewhat slow-moving until the final third of the book. Lovely to see a book that takes place in land I know, including the Badlands of SD and beyond, Denver environs, and (best of all!) Carhenge in Nebraska.

Really well written, tons of great ideas and through-threads. It can be a little slow at times, but each chapter does play an important in moving the story and its characters forward.
Only downside is that it is extremely violent; it's definitely the intention, but it was a bit too much for me at times, if I wasn't reading as an audio book, I would have had to stop.

4.5⭐️ for me. I really enjoyed this, I liked the modern day look at life on the reservation and I really loved the books main character and the lengths he was willing to go for family.
