Kind of reminded me of Razorblade Tears in some aspects. The voice of the narrators in both were very strong & well defined. I couldn’t put the book down at the end!

Although this book is a crime novel it also provides many insights into the lives, problems, and worldviews of Native Americans, especially those living on reservations. I was impressed at how well the elements were intertwined; Virgil and his actions were the focus but the additional information expanded his character and let the reader understand him better. This is one of the few noir books I've read thats not Nordic and I really enjoyed it.
If you were a fan of Long Bright River, or the movie Wind River, I think this would be up your alley.

Not quite a fan of the story.. didn’t feel the thriller/mystery suspense I was expecting. It was however enlightening to learn more about the challenges Native Americans face through the justice system and their perspective of “Americans.” 2.5 stars but I’ll give it 3 for the Native American perspective!

I didn't finish this because I sensed Debut Novel Disorder - which is not a disorder on the part of the author but rather on my part. Sometimes I read a debut novel and distract myself by thinking how much better the author's second book will be. Here's hoping I will read the next one all the way through!

Suspenseful. Weiden does a good job with the setting and describing the area. Reminded me of time spent in Eagle Butte and the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation.
Awesome storyline. The author brings to light many issues concerning modern-day life on the reservation, the positive, and the negative. He adds some history that the non-Indigenous will find interesting. I personally did not care for the description of certain ceremonies even though the author addresses this in his notes. I especially liked his focus on food sovereignty and Virgil’s trip to Denver. Who from the Rez has not taken their kids to Casa Bonita when in Denver?
This is very much worth the read. My super big complaint. I am really irritated at the publishers for their lack of respect for the language. Granted, Lakota is not the easiest of languages, but it deserves the respect to be pronounced correctly. It would have been a small effort to find a resource for accuracy. This is no reflection on the author as most have no input to the selection of narrators or their book covers for that matter.
My suggestion would be, if you are Lakota do not do the audio version but do read the book.
I enjoyed this story, I wish the author great success.

Gritty crime novel with lots cultural traditions woven into the plot. I enjoyed it a lot despite some predictability. Recommended for adults.
