4.5 stars…Amazing book. It made me homesick for Oregon and a little more confident that I could pick up hiking as a hobby (at least day hiking… idk if I could ever get to the point of sleeping outside for days on end)

The unforgettable true story of one woman who solo hiked the PCT Trail. What an experience!

I would rate this 3.5 stars. The writing was smooth throughout, and I was able to read large chunks at a time. While the story was very touching in places, I found myself getting impatient when certain things came up again and again. I see why others like this though! In the end, I couldn't completely relate to her story, but perhaps you will.

Wow. This was a truly thought provoking book. Bernadette Dunne is one of my favorite narrators so I knew I would like that part of the experience. Cheryl's story is just so HONEST and she tells it without asking her readers for approval or forgiveness. It is about her 1100 mile journey down the Pacific Crest Trail ( up rather, sorry), but it's more about her life's story that led her to make this journey. This book feels like what it is, a brave look at the hardest, worst, and best parts of Cheryl's life leading up to this hike, and how she encompasses those experiences within her long trek up the West Coast. She is a truly gifted writer, being beautiful in her descriptions of the wilderness and also just as able to describe the emotions and thoughts that ran through her head while on this trek. She is truly a human being in search of her meaning and purpose while on her journey. I was stopped short a few times by her choices and her explanation of why she made those choices ( Joe and heroin for one) but instead of being disgusted with her and quitting the book, I found her honesty made me want to find out what choices she made at the end of this amazing journey. I highly recommend it to women in particular who need a reminder of the strength all women possess, regardless of our circumstances or past.

4.5 stars - probably not necessary to read (or listen) to the book & see the movie, but it's been a while since I'd seen it. I didn't like the reader - she sounds like she's in her 40s but the character was 26 so I found it disconcerting. Otherwise an interesting book!
