This felt just like going home again - I grew up reading the BSC so it was nice to revisit them again! Great blast from the past that could introduce a new generation to the original BSC.
One thing - I thought Jenny P was introduced as a new customer in Mary Ann's first book (book 3 or 4) yet in this book she was established as a neighbor already. Maybe my memory is fuzzy since it has been years :)

Come on. You know that 13 year old in you wants to read it too.
A very quick read and actually sort of...sweet. Reminded me of why I refused to read anything non BSC related back when I was a kid. The characters are still the same and unlike the later books in the series the kids act like 12 year olds. I've been reading the snark by BSC bloggers lately but found that this book didn't have much to make fun off. Nice nostalgic look back. Good stuff.

After watching the movie, I decided that I must Re-read the series from my childhood. This was more of a prequel but still enjoyable.
Even though I spent a lot of time reading things that most 11 year olds don't, I still got obsessed with the Babysitter's Club books. I read every single one, including the super specials and babysitter's little sisters. I had no idea until a couple of weeks ago that Ann M. Martin had written a prequel just last year...well, 2010. (I'm not used to it being 2012 yet.) So, for old time's sake, I ordered it with a Christmas gift card, and it finally arrived this afternoon. While I can't say I was inspired to reread all of the books again, it was nice strolling down memory lane with Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, and Stacey. A fun read for a free 30-45 minutes.

This was fun for nostalgia, but nothing particularly interesting happened.

Cute like always but not my favorite. I just like the books better the older they get.
I'm not excited about the big "update" and re-release of these books. The covers are hideous and the publishers apparently forgot to update the awful font. I was a huge fan of the original series and extremely excited about an entirely new book, but the story itself is just, meh. I got bored and quit reading after 50 pages.
Surely this book will attract as much (or more!) attention from women my age as from its target audience, which is 9- to 12-year-old girls. For us, this is a throwback to that time in our lives. It was a time when I had an unquenchable thirst for my favorite series, The Baby-sitters Club. I admired those characters and aspired to emulate them. Plus, they got to go to Disney World in the first Super Special. I thought that was really cool.
This book was a faithful prequel to that series, and even 18-plus years later, I appreciated learning about Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia and Stacey's lives before the BSC. Those girls were important in forming my love of reading, from the time I was probably 6 till the end of elementary school. I'm all for anything that gets kids reading, and I hope this book is valuable to a younger generation of readers.

I enjoyed this, although I am a little too old for these books, I loved the series when I was younger and couldn't pass up on reading the prequel. Now that I've read it, I kind of want to reread some of the other books.
Another nostalgia hit for me. This time we go back to before it all began. Stacey is still in New York, Claudia thinks she's better than everyone else because a bored eighth grader pays attention to her, Kristy longs for her father and Mary Anne tries to learn more about her mother. It was a good story. I felt bad for Stacey dealing with Laine who was such a bully. I can't believe they became friends again later on. Also Stacey's parents were kinda stupid not knowing what Laine did or how she was treating their only child. Odd for over protective parents. Mary Anne made me cry as she tried to not only get her dad to loosen his rules, but the things about her mom hit me hard now that my own mother has passed away. Kristy is a typical teenager longing for her parents to get back together and hating anyone who stands in the way of that namely Watson. Poor Watson. Claudia I didn't like. She went on and on about how mature she was and so much more so than Kristy and Mary Anne but she sure didn't act mature and was really out of character from the original series. There were a few things that puzzled me as well like I thought Jenny Prezzios was a new client in Mary Anne Saves the Day but here she was, also Janine having a crush on a boy was but jarring, but hey she's a bit like Sheldon Cooper and even he got married eventually so anything is possible. The last chapter was basically a copy of the beginning of Kristy's Great Idea good to introduce new readers to the series. Except for the Claudia storyline I enjoyed this one.
