honestly this book could have been decent but the ending was SO rushed and tbh made no sense!!!
also still grossed out that charlie full on MADE OUT WITH HER COUSIN and then acted like it was nbd... that’s pretty fucked up

I won this book in a Goodreads First Reads contest.
It is a solid 4 star book...maybe 3 1/2 stars. The story was interesting if a bit slow. The end had a surprise in it that I did not see coming until near the end. It had it's bland moments...could have been a bit tighter in story. Overall, it was a decent read for summertime. Take it to the beach, on a trip, or on the airplane and enjoy.

Actually kinda hated this at first. Maybe I’m getting too old for the snotty teenagers in boarding school trope? (And my god, all of the names are over-the-top preppy.) Anyway, once you get a few chapters in, the mystery starts to take shape, and I got sucked in.
Decent premise, but in the second chapter when she made out with her cousin was just too fucking far for me. I literally could not care any less after that. No thank you

I would call this more of a mystery drama with some thriller elements
This was like a well written episode story. I didn't really know what to expect when I went into this book, but it was better than I thought it would be.
The beginning was a little slow with Charlie's high school antics, but I'm also 25 if I read this in high school or fresh out of high school I would've ate those parts up. Once it got into the actual mystery and incorporating her mom and dad's pov chapters I was hooked which is probably like 10% of the way in.
I was so happy with the way this ended and it got me with a little twist at the end. Charlie was an interesting main character because the positions she's in is so complicated with just her families alone, and I just fell in love with Grace and the journey we see her go through was the highlight of the book in my opinion.
I think reading this might have been slightly more enjoyable than listening to it, at times the repetitiveness in conversations with the "I said, he said, she said" after a character said 1 word was a lot and took a minute to tune out, but in a book you can easily glance over those.

This one definitely exceeded my expectations! I almost returned this one to the library (due to my out of control TBR list) but I’m so glad i ended up giving it a chance.
This was a longer book (over 400 pages), and for the most part, I thought it moved along quite quickly. I enjoyed the boarding school premise, and while I sometimes hesitate reading books that seem like they could be considered YA, I definitely think this will appeal to adults as well.
This one was really interesting to me - I was glued to my seat trying to figure out what happened to Charlie’s mom - did she really leave of her own volition, or was something more sinister at play? As the story goes on and the reader learns more, you begin to potentially piece together what happened, but I personally did not “solve” this one.
I also enjoyed the idea behind the secret society, “the A’s” - I haven’t read a novel with anything like that recently, and while it was slightly predictable at times, I thought the author did a great job weaving the 2 storylines together & liked how she pieced it all together. Especially at the end, I was super invested in figuring out how everything would culminate and was NOT disappointed.
I think this would appeal to fans of mystery/suspense novels, anyone would loves a disappearing wife/mother, & fans of boarding school YA novels- there seemed to be something for everyone. I would add this one to your list!
