What a super fun YA vampire story! I absolutely loved this story so much. The characters, the atmosphere, the urban legends and vampire lore was just amazing.
The romance was a fun little bonus thrown in there as well, I love a bit of romance with my horror/thriller/mystery type plots.
I was genuinely happy with the twists and turns, I didn’t see any of it coming and I love when a book is able to keep me on my toes.
I did want a little bit more from the ending, but overall I had very little complaints about this one.
I enjoyed the whole book and can’t wait to read more from this author in the future!

This is such an amazing read and easily 4.5.
I read it in one evening - I couldn’t put it down. I loved the 90s throwback. Loves the vampires and horror aspect. There actually isn’t a lot to dislike. If I had to put my finger on anything - the ending could have been drawn out a bit more and I wanted to know more about Mina and her developing relationships (as I don’t want to spoil, I’ll it at that.)
Really good book though. Thoroughly recommend it.

This book was sent to me for review.
Things have been rough for Mina and her sister Libby ever since their vampire-obsessed mother walked out on them a year ago. When Libby left Mina behind to go to college in New Orleans, it felt to Mina like just one more betrayal. But now she's in the Big Easy for the summer, determined to repair her relationship with her big sister.
This murder-mystery-turned-vampire-story features amateur sleuthing, nostalgic '90s references, and has a bit of a "Vampire Diaries" vibe. Despite having so many of my favorite things, I didn't love this book as much as I expected to. I didn't mesh well with the writing style, and the ending felt rushed.

Summer ’95, New Orleans. Mina’s having a summer to die for.
17-year-old Mina arrives in New Orleans to visit her estranged sister, Libby. Mina loves nothing more than a creepy horror movie and can't wait to explore the city’s darkest secrets – vampire tours, seedy bars, spooky cemeteries, disturbing local myths…
But the perfect summer bliss is broken when, while exploring the mansion, Mina discovers the body of a girl with puncture marks on her neck and a lock of hair suspiciously resembling Libby’s … who, or what has made those marks? Is Mina’s fanatical obsession with Vampires playing tricks on her mind? Or could Vampires actually be stalking the streets of New Orleans, hunting for fresh prey?
When this story got going, this story was truly so good. The plot twists, the tension, action and in synergy leading to the end was brilliant and really wasn't something I completely expected, which is something I never mind in a book. The moments in this book where I was on the edge of my seat to find out what happened was incredible, and though I don't know how another book would continue, I do think I want to read more from this writer for sure.
The chemistry between the characters is also wonderful. The burning chemistry between Jared and Mina is great as the book develops and what happens next for them really is something I want to know and Della and Libby are the cutest couple and kind of goals to be honest. The characters are really well developed be that through the story or the diary entries and their growth in the book is done amazingly - and these characters in New Orleans make for a wonderful combination.
I also appreciated how much detail when it came to the era/dates that went into this book, with the style, films, music etc that were popular at the time and really woven into this book brilliantly - costumes, pop culture references and movies weaved into the story so well and were a nice touch to the story.
A great read that you really can sink your teeth (or fangs) into!
This was a quick okay read for me. I liked the mystery element and the setting of New Orleans was so good. I wasn’t sure about the supernatural element and it didn’t work for me personally. The whole vampires thing was a little strange and I would have preferred it if the supernatural element wasn’t involved. The characters were okay, I didn’t really connect to them and I found the romance really annoying. The writing was okay, I found it a quick read and there were parts that had me on edge. Overall this was just okay for me.
I was craving a spooky book to get me in the autumnal Halloween mood, and Mina and the Undead definitely delivered on that front! I absolutely loved the setting being in New Orleans in 1995, I thought it added to the atmosphere and the the cosy spooky vibes. I also really liked seeing the haunted mansion that Mina and her sister Libby worked at, and how that was often the place for some creepy and gruesome events!
My favourite part of the book was the murder mystery which drove the plot forward. I loved how there were threads alluding to the answer throughout the book, and how they all came together in the end. The ending itself was so fast paced and crazy that I felt so absorbed in the story and like I had to keep reading to find out what would happen next. The conclusion was so satisfying, but it leaves things open enough that I am very intrigued to see where the sequel takes the story.
The characters all interacted with one another in such a fun way that created an amazing found family friendship group. Mina was a very strong main character to follow, but she also had vulnerabilities and insecurities like any other 17 year old. For that reason she felt very authentic and believable as a character. The romance between her and another character was so sweet and I loved how they communicated so well with one another. I also adored seeing her sibling relationship with Libby, which is something I always love seeing in books as an older sister myself! I highly recommend this book if you’re looked for a fun, fast-paced and spooky vampire read this Halloween.

I really enjoyed this book! It was an easy read, gripping and fun.
I knew I would enjoy this book from the outset and it didn’t disappoint. This YA novel is full of 90s nostalgia- lots of Buffy the vampire slayer references, the lost boys, interview with the vampire, a brooding relationship between two vampire brothers (think Stefan and Damon ~ vampire diaries) and so much more. Written like a twisty, beefed up, modern day Point Horror book, Mina and the Undead is a quick, delightful read. Mina reminded me a lot of myself as a teenager in the 90s - I felt like I was seeing myself through the pages!
Loved the twists in the book - I didn’t actually see them coming and believe me, I tried really hard to guess where the book was taking us.
The biggest problem with this book is that I now really HAVE to visit New Orleans and bourbon Street - I have actually googled flights! So, thanks Amy - my travel list is even bigger!
