this was another wild, wild ride. it wasn't perfect, but i think it vastly improved from the first book--both in terms of character development and world-building. not that the first book was bad, just that it felt a bit too bloated. this time, it's still a bit bloated, but there was a bit more fleshing out and expanding. i do think the ending was a bit rushed, especially given how fast-paced the entire book seemed, but overall, it was a fun ride.
i actually really loved seeing Vivia's POV. in the first book, she seemed like this crazed, power-hungry monster because we only saw from Merik's POV. Vivia's actually much more complex and interesting than we were led to believe and i loved seeing her and Merik sort of mend their relationship. there is a part of me, though, that wished they had an actual conversation as opposed to a sort of mutual understanding, but i don't know where it would have fit in the narrative.
honestly, the Shadow Man is a great overarching villain. that scene in the greenhouse was just... oof. super creepy! i loved it and i loved the scene with Merik, Vivia, and Cam in the underground, too. there are certainly a lot of mysteries surrounding the Shadow Man and the half-Cleaved beings and i really, really want to know more. especially since Kullen is actually alive?!
i really liked Iseult's story line and her budding friendship with Aeduan. Safi's was also interesting, largely because of Vaness. i wish there had been more of just the two of them together, but considering Safi's decision at the end of the book, i'm thinking in Bloodwitch there's going to be more (i certainly HOPE there's more).

Hyperventilatingly good! (Yes! That's a word!)
I swear, I thought this book would kill me when I started reading it! I flew through the first 100 pages and then got stuck as I was so overcome with anxiety for my previous babies (aka the fictional characters) that I couldn't continue. Eventually, finished it and OH MY GOD. What a sequel! I am so surprised there aren't that many people raving about the series as it is such a perfect blend of mind-blowing action and amazing writing! Highly recommend!

READ TWO
This took me such a long time to get through for some reason? I still really enjoyed it, though, and I am excited to finally get to Bloodwitch!
READ ONE
So, this was really great. Though I gave them the same rating, I do think I liked this one a little better than the first one. I got to see much more of the characters and I think the story itself was less confusing and more exciting than the first, which didn't really get started until the end. Also - this book has a very pretty cover. I approve.
I got to know so many new characters! Truthwitch was mainly focused on Safi, Iseult and Merik, and Aeduen at some points, but in this one I got to meet Vivia, Cam, as well as delving deeper into the lives of the characters I already knew. Safi and Iseult are separated and it's so beautiful to see how deep their friendship goes, and how they struggle without each other. And there was so much interesting detail about the characters and I'm really excited. The whole world expanded and this series is moving somewhere I definitely want to follow. I have an armada of ships building as well. Aeduen + Iseult (forgive me for misspelt names), Vivia + Stix (yesss), and at one point I kind of half shipped Merik and Cam. But i don't think that that is going to happen. This series also kind of figured out it's major direction. I wasn't really sure where it was going before, but now I think it's going to be war. And evil darkness. Which is great, awesome - I love that.
Please bless this book for its diversity. It!! Is!! SO!! Great!! And I also think the world building was developed much further and became less confusing. I get what is going on now. Kind of. Possibly. I also liked reading all the different threads of the story line. It was nice to constantly switch up the point of view, and there are lots of different threads of stories that need to come together soon. I think the ones I enjoyed the most were Vivia's and Iseult's. I liked all of them though! Apart from Merik's, mainly because he got a bit annoying and stupid. But he redeemed himself in the end. I do love a good brother sister reunion. And Cam made him sort himself out.
Verdict: I need the next book. Unfortunately, it is not being released until 2019!! WHYY???!!! But luckily for me, and anyone else who loves this series, I have discovered that this year there is a novella prequel being released about Ryber! So I am excited for that, but also sad because this means I won't be able to follow up on the lives of these characters for a while. They are all growing so much. * sob * But I really enjoyed this book, and I loved the world, characters and diversity, and I hope the next one will be a five star read for me.

The most common review I've seen about this book was 'good, but not as good as the first one.'
I must respectfully disagree, but in fairness I got a queer princess so I am not entirely unbiased. I thought this one was even better than the first, and I liked the first one an awful lot.
First, as mentioned above, QUEER PRINCESS. VIVIA. DARLING. Not only are you interested in ladies, you are a fully fleshed-out, complicated, trying to do the right thing without all the info, looking for the info, dealing with nonsense until you decide to say FUCK IT princess who wants to do what's right for your people and you try so hard come here let me cuddle you.
It was also incredibly painful to read about Merrik and Vivia assuming the worst about each other for actual reasons, because then I can't just yell at them for being idiots.
Maybe a more thought out review will show up later, but for now everything was perfect and everything still hurt so.
