Why do you hold a razor in one hand?
"So men remember," Merik whispered to the stones, "that I am sharp as any edge."
And why do you hold broken glass in the other?
"So men remember that I am always watching."

5 Though we are safe with our friends near stars!!

No second book slump for me in this book. All the gang came back to fight against who knows what and where. We are still rotating characters every chapter which is great and awful all at the same time. I'm still in love with Aeduan's character he's so complex and I love seeing a new layer to him each chapter. I think the great part about this book is I never knew what was going to happen in each chapter or exactly where it was going. We met some new characters and revisited some old characters. I am so interested in all of the witch powers in these books and how they work, we get to look deeper into these power in this book. I don't know what much more I can say without spoiling it, I loved every second of it. I even threw the book across the couch when I hit the end because I thought there was more left. I thought this was going to be a trilogy but its a series now I guess so off to get the next book.

Things that stuck out for me:
Merik and Aeduan both went from a dead prince and a scary bloodwtich to father figures by the end of the book. And I live for that trope, really looking forward to see their protective-dad mode on.
Safi's sense of humor is untouchable, her impress\unempressed joke was gold.

The first book in this series - Truthwitch - was an engaging, complex, fantasy adventure which I adored. The second book is an epic, character driven fantasy drama that I loved even more than the first. It’s hard for second novels to top the first for me, but this book just had so much of what I loved about Truthwitch, and then some.

The story takes on the character arc of Merik, although all four main characters are featured prominently and their individual journeys are pretty intense. The way the author balances each of the character’s journeys is what makes this book stand out for me. I loved how Merik, Safi, Iseult and Aeduan each had a unique problem to solve and their perspectives were presented so seamlessly, with their individuality prominent. I love how these characters feel fleshed out and real in their emotions and their thinking.

The plot of this novel moves so quickly and effectively. There are many things at stake, and a few wonderful characters are introduced or expanded on. Safi in particular meets up with a character barely mentioned in the first book, and I loved the rapport she develops with that character.

The story, the characters and the engaging and expansive world-building made this an absolutely wonderful read. Everything that made Truthwitch amazing, is delivered in Windwitch, with so much more.

So I tried reading this book. And I pushed myself so hard to read it and I really thought I was gonna get into it. I really did. But...NOPE!! I just couldn't do it. I had to stop. I don't know if it was the way of the writing or just the characters rubbing me the wrong way. I can't do it.
