This was a good book to get me back into reading fiction after finishing my degree, but it’s no masterpiece. I read it as the tv show is one of my all time favourites but this book rather pails in comparison. Still, it was a quick and entertaining read, just don’t go into it with high expectations!

I'm on a nostalgia journey because I remember reading this series way back in high school before the tv show was even a thing. I know that they are radically different than the series, but I remember enjoying them a lot.

I will say the first book is weak. Are any of the characters likable? Not really. Is the entire plot and romance shaky? Absolutely. Are there outdated views on current hot topics? Definitely. But come on. It's a teen vampire romance. Of course it's angsty. Of course the love is inexplicably instant. Of course the seniors in high school are bratty, bitchy, and arrogant. 

None of that makes it less of a fun trip down memory lane. I can't wait to get to the rest of the books because I remember some pretty interesting things that happen in the rest of the series!

Boring, pointless, no difference in characters, uninspiring, just a bad read. Do not recommend this on any front. (If you want a similar story, but done better just watch the show) I tried not to compare it to that, but it’s so hard not to.

It was entertaining but at the same time a little too slow for my taste. Elena isn’t a very interesting character yet and I feel no emotional connections to any characters. Nothing really happened. I thought there would be more fantastical fun

the relationship moved exceptionally quickly, made it feel a bit hollow

. Overall, entertaining, exciting, mysterious and enticing. I enjoy vampire novels.
