The Housemaid (The Housemaid Book 1)
Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was the first thriller I have read in quite a while, and I genuinely feel like it was the perfect reintroduction to the genre. It was a fast paced, edge of your seat read. I won't say too much because I don't want to give any spoilers, but this book had me trying to figure out how it was going to end the whole time. It had so many reveals, twists, and turns that I was constantly thinking of different scenarios and avenues the plot could take, as well as possible outcomes/ending to the novel. I did find some of the plot a smidgen predictable, but it was still extremely enjoyable. I found the ending to be the perfect set-up to book 2, which I will absolutely be reading! If you are looking for an easy mystery/thriller this is it!

I had high expectations for this thriller and Frieda McFadden did not disappoint. I was supposed to buddy read this with my best friend but I could not put it down and I binged it this afternoon. I am such a huge fan of domestic thrillers and this one did a great job of tying together some of the best tropes. Can’t wait to binge some more McFadden this summer.

I really disliked this book/the characters but also couldn’t put it down???! Like I HAD to know what happened next. All the characters are extremely unlikeable and make very stupid stupid decisions that made me want to throw a book at their head. The main character possesses almost 0 survival instinct despite spending 10 years in prison. If you like Lifetime dramas/thrillers, you will like this book.

I know I'm definitely in the minority here because most people love this book and I'm honestly so happy for you. I love when people love books regardless if I like them or not. 🫶🏼 and my opinion on this book doesn't actually mean anything about this author's talent. and I hope she keeps thriving with her success. ❤️

okay with that, I'm going to explain my thoughts on this book. they are definitely complicated.

I'll start with the things I liked. the ending. it was actually great.

now to the things I didn't like as much. the first half of the book. I wanted to give up on this book so badly but I pulled through it because I was hoping it got better and it definitely did, especially on the third part.

my least favourite thing about it were the characters. I hated every single character even tho some of them got their redemption in the end. the only one I didn't completely hate was the Italian gardener, Enzo. but even him, I had some issues with.

so yeah, I have no idea if I'll ever read the second book.

(also, I got it from the library. support your local libraries!!!!)

Honestly, this is the first McFadden book that I thoroughly enjoyed! I didn’t understand the hype of the author after the last couple I’ve read from her, but The Housemaid is pretty fantastic. I’m excited to read the sequel.
