I was really torn over this book - I loved the basis of the plot and there were parts that genuinely surprised me. However the ending just got more and more complicated - slight spoiler it essentially turns out Ivy was sleeping with everyone and was in love with her which felt anti climactic and a bit cheap . Overall I liked it but I wish it had ended differently.

The Perfect Match was an oddly enjoyable read, and I say “oddly” because it was very domestic abuse and sexual assault heavy. Massive trigger warnings regarding both of these. But it was handled in a thought provoking way and addressed many of the concerns and the mindset of survivors such as “will I be believed as he’s rich, white and well educated?”
I was disappointed by the ending, which is the reason this only gets 4*.

This book! My head is spinning.
Twenty-eight year old Zara dreams of being married, having children and having a perfect family, in spite of her upbringing which was quite the opposite. Her best friend Ivy is happy to flit around, never settling down and thinks Zara's idea of being settled is pathetic.
When Zara meets Henry and begins a whirlwind romance, Ivy is less than pleased. Zara and Ivy's relationship is extremely close and made me feel a bit uncomfortable at times if I'm honest. Ivy is telling Zara things to turn her against Henry and Henry is doing the same about Ivy. Zara is stuck in the middle but who can she trust?
I absolutely loved how this was written and I think I went from about 17% to 75% in one sitting because I just wanted to see what was going to happen next. It is very dark at some points and had me guessing throughout. I really enjoyed the end scene where Zara relays the story from two different perspectives. Very well done!

The Perfect Match was a pleasant surprise and proved itself to be a heart-pounding read! Thank you to Netgalley, Embla Books, and the author for allowing me to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A complicated friendship between our FMC (Zara) and her best friend (Ivy) set the stage for a riveting thriller. Zara's mother is an alcoholic, her wealthy father wants nothing to do with her, and her best friend is one of the few people she is very close to in her life. Throw in the fact that her ex-boyfriend of 15 years is also best friends with Ivy and that Ivy is strangely possessive of Zara to shake it all up. Things get even messier when Henry Firth, a rich socialite, shows romantic interest in Zara at a party. As the story progresses, relationships become more and more entangled, and the boundaries between love, care, and abuse become blurry very quickly. Who is the villain? Who can Zara really trust?
There is so much to this book... Interweaving relationships, complicated pasts, and characters with many facets... I could not put it down! It is extremely sobering at the end and is as much a commentary on trauma as it is an exploration of friendship and true love. The ending was fantastic!
So many of the characters are morally grey at best, which is what makes them relatable and gives you the feeling of, "I know someone exactly like this." Dandy Smith truly knows people and is skillful and honest in her delivery of human nature with all its highs and lows. I absolutely recommend this book and finished it in just a few hours!
