Crown of Midnight is slightly better than its predecessor because we get some actual deaths (I think the on screen kill count is higher, for sure) for a book ostensibly about a teenage assassin, and our leads definitely spend more time investigating the central plot (with Feelings along the way!)

I...still don't really like the protagonist, y'all. I appreciate having flaws in your protagonist, but the scene where Nehemia is asking Celaena to help do *anything* and Celaena's like "Why should I help you possibly get people killed; why can't I be selfish?" HOOBOY, I'm reminded of people who see modern societal struggles and shrug with, "Well, it doesn't affect *me* personally so why should I care about [black lives/immigration/etc.]"
SpoilerAnd like in real life, it's the indifference of said shruggers who lead to the deaths of people of color, wtf. Farewell, only sensible character Nehemia.

I did notice a poison (bloodbane) is used in both Crown of Midnight & A Court of Mist and Fury- coincidence? Overlapping worlds? Or does the author like to use the same fantasy poisons? Both seem to allude to the presence of fae...

Will continue reading the series probably because I like completing things.

I was expecting more. Dorian? Chaol? Who cares:! She's the best? we hear this over and over and not once in the 3 books I have read in the series have I been made to believe that she is in fact the best at anything, besides maybe indecision. I was bored throughout so much of the book waiting for something exciting to happen or something to be revealed. But, even when those things happened it all seemed very anti-climatic.

This was breathtaking. It was wonderful. More than Throne of Glass. More than anything actually. The plot and twists and characters and feelings-it just takes your mind away. This book is not 4 start but 4.8 just because i tend to give every single book 5. Yeah. It was wonderful.

Here’s the deal. Lil Maas X is phenomenal. We saw this in the throne of glass. I was so hooked on the characters and dynamics that nothing mattered. This second book was kinda mid… that is until 2/3 the way through. THE WHOLE LAST THIRD OF THIS BOOK MIGHT AS WELL HAVE BEEN SET ON FLAMES THE WAY I WAS READING IT. To the point where I didn’t care about character development, I wanted to know what happened. And of course, we are left with a beautiful cliff hanger that probably won’t even answer my initial questions but instead leaves me eager to find new questions and see how it intertwineswith the series.

You did NOT have me in the first half…. But by golly you got me there!!
