These characters are highly unlikeable, I didn't enjoy the story, and I have no clue why it was recommended to me. No.
Moderate: Murder, Sexual violence, Sexual content, Rape, and Sexual assault

This is one of the weirdest books I've ever read. It will be something of a miracle if I finish it, but something keeps me turning the pages. These characters are just so absurd as to be entertaining.
LATER... Okay, so I finished it. I don't think I got what Willett was going for, or maybe our senses of humor are completely different. In any case, it was one of the strangest and most original books I've ever read, so I felt compelled to give it at least 3 stars.

terrible. i can't believe david sedaris had anything nice to say about it. about every 20 pages or so, i told myself, "nicole you could put this down, there are other books waiting", but i stubbornly rode it out, expecting it to pick up somewhere. the only enjoyable parts were librarian related, but even then it wasn't worth the effort.

I think this book is about hunger...the hunger for real human contact as well as the physical hunger that can bind and separate us.

Interesting in story and form. I think I was expecting something more humorous, and may have taken this story of abuse and twin sisters a bit too seriously for my own reading good. Would like to try another by this author.

I enjoyed a lot of it, especially because the main character is a librarian. Parts of it hit a bit too close too home though. It's really painful to see someone you are close to put themselves through hell for no good reason.
