I do not know what I can say about this book. I do not know why I even read this. Maybe if Paulo wrote other stories --- stories not about life --- then maybe, just maybe, I would like his books.
Enjoyed reading along with the audiobook. Review to come.

The story was very interesting and I enjoyed listening to it. I did lose the thread several times because there isn't much variation in the narrator's delivery and I couldn't tell which character was speaking.
I don't really know what to think of this book. I did like it yet I didn't find it extraordinary. There were some sentences that struck me as really well written and the end of each chapter was well done. Apart from that it was interesting to see someone from different point of view, each one of them giving a specific view of Athena.
Throughout the book she evolves slowly into a deep character with a lot of appearances and I thought it was cleverly achieved. I was not convinced by the magical, or more spiritual, aspect of the book since it is not written with Athena's p.o.v. yet it gives a different aspect of paganism, more beautiful less anti-biblical. Because Athena was indeed a member of a catholic church and her drift from the church to paganism was only a change of rituals, she never questions her faith or the existence of a higher being.

I'm not sure words can express how little I liked this book. Firstly, I should admit that I have a little bit of a problem with Coelho - while I don't mind the simple little stories in his books, I hate having the new age hippy pap shoved down my throat.
This is a book about a woman who was in no way endearing, narrated by a selection of people I had little to no interest in hearing from. At one point the woman is asked for directions and sends them off with a very elaborate route which leads in completely the wrong direction - because apparently it's important for these people she's never met before to understand that she thinks it's about the journey, not the destination, or to get lost, or something. Or rather, it's important for Paulo to find a way to pop that little message into the story.

As a Witch myself, I really loved this book. A lot. I appreciate that it talks about magic in real terms and doesn't sensationalize.
