I loved it couldn't put it down, had my attention from page one it has plenty of action, and paranormal aspects in it. Would totally recommend to anyone who loves a good thriller book

What a spooky, frightening jaunt in the woods! This was a great book that will make you afraid to read it in the dark!

Full of a spooky unknown, mixing with folklore, this one had me shaking in my boots from start to finish. I highly suggest this one for anything in for a good horror/thriller. I also loved that this one was located in the backwoods of British Columbia.

Folk horror which combines Cree mythology and Dutch folklore. Three half-Cree siblings are called back to the deserted reservation their estranged father lives on. Their cousin and grandfather are worried as he has not been seen for six weeks.

This is a fun creature feature which pits demons against the Cree of the reserve. The group that sets off into the woods gets taken out one by one as do other minor players. The characters have depth and are more than stereotypical types except for the egotistic, macho, womanizer that I kept rooting for to be killed. I thought this was a lot of fun and read it in one day. Is it the best-written book? No, but it certainly entertains.

I had high hopes for this book after loving TOMB of GODS (2020 Release by Brian Moreland) but it was a huge let down for me. For the first 50% of the book it was just family drama, love triangles, etc with absolutely nothing which can be termed as horror. I was so bored!
I would give credit where it's due because I quite enjoyed the Part 7 and Part 8 but other than that it was just 'meh!' in my opinion.

As he did with "Dead of Winter," Moreland delivers another horror thriller that delivers thrills, chills, a lot of tension, many “edge of your seat” moments, and a highly compulsive read that makes for the perfect winter reading. Although "The Devil’s Woods" is set in the present, and not historical fiction like "Dead of Winter," if that wasn’t to a reader’s taste, then that means good news for this one as more horror readers may be inclined to take a chance on it. Once again, Moreland’s research into Canada’s history and specifically British Columbia, as well as the Native American myths and legends associated with the region, is very well-done and he presents it in a very engaging way.

I’ve been recommending "Dead of Winter" to readers ever since I read it a few years ago, and I will continue to recommend it in this review as well because it’s such a high-impact novel. I enjoyed "The Devil’s Woods" as much as I enjoyed "Dead of Winter" although that novel remains my favourite of Moreland’s so far. Continue to watch for more of his work in the future, as it will only keep getting better and better.
