This book is early Dickens, and wanders a bit in terms of the story line. It is a dark and melodramatic look at the underworld of Victorian England,  much darker than any adaptation I've seen. The characters are archetypes of criminals, innocent child, benevolent grandfather, etc.

I liked this book and I think that you should read it!!

I was quite excited for this cause I read great expectations years ago for university and adored it and I've also read a christmas carol and adored that too, but this was a bit meh to me to be honest. To be fair I listened to it as an audiobook and I definitely didn't pay attention at all times but like.. the reason I zoned out all the time was at least a little that I was kind of bored? So I'm kind of sad that I didn't love it, but it might be a book that I'll come back to in a different format one day.

I didn't enjoy this book for the most part. It had good moments but the plot was rambling and disjointed. It felt like Dickens didn't have a plan for where this novel was going to go.

“Oliver Twist” by Charles Dickens

⭐⭐️

Some people will hate me for saying this, but I really struggle getting through Charles Dickens’ novels in any form other than plays at the theatre. I loved being part of this musical in high school, but it was so hard to get through the book. I thought it would never end. I tried with a few of his other books and I just couldn’t finish them. His writing is just not for me, and I accept that.

I will say, I appreciated that he shed light on the horrible abuse orphaned children and women experienced during this time period, through no fault of their own.

I liked this book, the story is very interesting, but I had a hard time reading it the first 100 - 200 pages really draged on, but overall I enjoyed this book and it's a great classic to read. So I'm giving it 3,5 stars
