I just can't get into this one - unfortunately, this book may just not be for me. I don't necessarily see this book as a thriller - maybe I just didn't read enough? - I see this more as a Crime/Science/Fiction. But, if you're a huge fan of crime/courtroom stuff mixed with a lot of family drama and a little bit of sci-fi, you'll absolutely love it.
Personally, I just don't care about "a pressurized oxygen chamber" that can "potentially help cure patients of issues like autism or infertility". I guess I should've known my tastes before going into this book, but this just didn't do it for me. However, I can understand how others may love it. I just cannot connect with the characters and I've found myself not really paying attention to the story.
I'm so bummed because I had such high hopes for this book. This may be a book I will circle back around to at some point in life, but for now...DNF at 18%.

The mystery was intriguing and kept me hooked. Horribly graphic though. The treatment of autism and disability was acidic, portraying flawed mothers pushing their children towards "normalcy" at any cost. The worst offender realizes this is a mistake far too late. No perspective from any of the actually autistic people - Happiness Falls is much better in that regard. The reveal was satisfying enough, but I'm sad for all the characters and a little scarred.
Graphic: Gore, Child death, Medical trauma, Rape, Ableism, Child abuse, Adult/minor relationship, Fire/Fire injury, and Suicide
Moderate: Grief, Car accident, Chronic illness, and Racism
Minor: Alcohol and Vomit
