I want to come back and read this at some point. For now, it's too info dumpy and not enough action.

My Thoughts

Lately, I haven’t really been getting into fantasy and adventure novels. Which is sad because I love them. I love the ones that are just amazing and take me on one hell of a ride. I think the reason for that is because I haven’t really found one that I could get completely lost in. I think that is because I haven’t been in the mood for those types of books. Well, The Demon King changed that for me. I couldn't put down this book, literally. When I had to, I was thinking about. Once I started this book, it consumed me.

The world that Cinda created really was intriguing and sucked me right in. It was intricate and beautifully detailed. I really loved it. But I think what was the coolest thing is that this story revolves around ancient tales, mysteries, battles, and good old wizard power!! I love a good ol wizard story. This world Cinda created in based on many things, but mainly a world seeped in magic.

Not only did I enjoy the world Cinda created but also the characters. There are a few main characters and I love that the story not only tells the POV of one of them, but all of them. Even though the book is written in 3rd person POV, I barely realized it.

Han is probably my favorite character. A street rat trying to not only take care of himself, but his mother and sister at the same time. However, Han has a little bit of bad luck. He is always getting himself in very bad and very dangerous situations. When he has a run in with some newbie wizards, his life really does begin to change. He is thrust into a world he never thought he would enter. What I liked about Han was that he is an interesting, smart, and very caring guy. Though he happens to always land into bad situations, I could tell he was a good perosn. And despite the fact he grew up with nothing, he is a very noble character.

Raisa, another MC, wasn't what I was really expecting. I loved that she isn't like the other princesses that you usually encounter in these types of books. She is a very head strong individual, and she does not want to be ignorant of what her people are going through. She’s a fighter, literally, and she doesn't mind getting her hands dirty. Though she doesn't always make the best decision, I enjoyed being about to read from her POV and getting to know her character. Like Han, I like her, and I liked that she wasn't what I was expected.

This book has a wide range of characters, each uniquely made and very important to the story. It was also very interesting to see how each character, no matter if they are a princess, an ex-gang leader, or a member of the clans; they are all integrated in some way. Everyone, especially Han and Raisa, are connected in some way, though that hasn't been fully explained why and how yet, it's still very interesting.

The world itself is immense and complex. I just couldn't get enough of that. This book has mystery, magic, fighting, adventure and romance. The plot is intriguing and beautifully crafted. The pacing was just to my liking, and there are bits and pieces of hints as to what is going to happen later on in the series. The Demon King is more setting up for future events that are to later happen. It is drawing everything and everyone together. Though nothing too major happens, I loved it. I enjoyed the characters, the world, and the aspect of what is going to happen. I’m also very glad this series is completed because I have a feeling I’m going to finish it as soon as possible!

I definitely recommend this series to those who love a book full of wonder, adventure, mystery, magic, fear, hope, and love.

2.5 stars? I like the concept better than the execution. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood.

This book was good but I’ve heard the rest in the series is much better so I’m going to continue with the series. Fingers crossed it gets better. There is definitely promise so I’m excited to continue reading.
