This one has some bits of weak writing, but that its completely made up for the portions which are written beautifully. The beginning and ending in particular have some metaphors and ideas that I am still thinking about. Gave me a powerful understanding of the city of Istanbul.

Beautiful description of Istanbul the city, and the political trauma it faces. Alongside this, all the characters story's showed a reflection of the city and the sanctuary of making your own family who love you and support your choices

This book is literally one of my favourite books of all time. Elif Shafak is my favourite author and I can say that this book is my favourite of hers with confidence. I can't really explain but reading this book was an emotional roller coaster. I loved the character Leyla and her friends, it felt like they were real people and I was reading about their life. There are some instances that made me stop reading so I could digest what happened in a scene so I highly recommend checking the content warnings before reading. The storylines made me cry a lot, and cry again when I though how realistic they actually were.
