Bit of self promo here: looking for digital, printable bookmarks and stuff? www.thewitcherywoo.com is my new website... (use 'Goodreads' at checkout for a 15% discount!)
I wanted to love this book - I wanted to delve into adventure upon the high seas. It started wonderful, I was invested - was it a large sea creature shipwrecking and destroying boats??? No it was just an idiot with no compassion and no character driving a boat. So, why did I read the whole thing it if was that bad, AND I gave it a unusual 1 Star?? Because I had to read it for my other YouTube Channel: https://youtu.be/@storeiswithannabelle and so I gritted my teeth through the millions of Latin names, classifications and the harpooner's endless grinding of his teeth and angst.
Perhaps I'll never read Verne again. Perhaps I will venture to the Journey to the Centre of the Earth since I recently visited the volcano that inspired it... maybe not though I am scarred for life.

If Jules Verne didn’t have a true interest in the sea he certainly feigned it well. The amount of detail he goes into on all the different types of animal and plant life is incredible. It was oddly a comforting book being slowly taken in adventure after adventure. I think because it was written in the perspective of a professor, the tone was funnily academic in the face of all of their awesome journeys but I liked it. I was also pleasantly surprised by the professor’s change in perspective on the captain. For a lot of the book he idolized him while as the reader I couldn’t shake that he was keeping them captive.

This book was an experiment and I realise I don’t like theses types of books.
