I couldn’t really get through this book. I don’t know why. It just didn’t really intrigue me as much as the book description did.
Beautifully written. Character building is rich and I enjoyed getting to know them. Sometimes weaving of stories that contain a lot of coincidences seems forced, but not in this story.
Only negative is that so many names I had trouble keeping up with them all.

A wonderful tale. The novel is centred around storytelling, and the narration throughout was like someone was sat with me recounting a tale to me, instead of reading it. It was rather incredible and a very unique experience.
The novel, like the river it's focused on, has many twists and turns. There are moments of quiet and peace, and then this is shattered by chaos and change.
A girl is carried into a pub dead. Some time later she comes back to life. Nobody knows how, and nobody knows who she is. Throughout, many people lay claim to the child, convinced that she is theirs- even I was unsure throughout whose she was! Lives are entwined, and confusion rife. A fantastic novel to set your imagination going, while at the same time giving you a delicious, comfortable feeling like you're being told a folk story or legend by a log fire. Highly recommend.

Everyone I know that’s read this book has loved it, but I honestly couldn’t wait for it to be over, it dragged on with pages and pages of descriptive text, not the kind of book for me
