Loved The Thirteenth Tale and now loved this. Can’t wait for another from the author!

Great story. Extremely well crafted. A feat!

3.5/4 ⭐️ I’m undecided at this point, for me it’s such a difficult book to review.... I found I was quite bored at times, in fact until around the first 300 pages into this book! Then I just couldn’t put it down!
This isn’t one persons narrative, it’s a traditional story, so all characters are in play and is told in the 3rd person.... which I actually really enjoyed - it made a refreshing change. However there are many characters and initially I found it was a bit confusing!
Once upon a river is beautifully written, with an equally beautiful and enchanting story, I just felt in the early stages it waffled on a bit too much, however I’m in conflict as perhaps that is what built the foundations for such a great ending???
Overall, a slow building but enchanting and beautifully written book to recommend

Enjoyed the writing while I was reading it. The kind of book when you’re finished that you think, “I really liked it but..,” meaning it doesn’t really stick with you.

I’m sad it’s over, but also somehow it was one of those books where you’d get distracted and have to reread a page 6 times…

This novel includes a number of interesting and well-developed characters whose stories overlap and interact in a fascinating way. I really enjoyed the realistic setting with a touch of fantasy.

Once Upon A River is a charming grown-up fairy tale that places the mysterious Thames River as its main character. The story is set during a time when humankind has one toe in the sciences, but still believes in the power of magic and the veil between two worlds. When a mysterious child seems to arise from the dead a small town must question all that it once believed. Highly Recommend.

A captivating, enchanting and beautiful story with so many twists and turns. It's the perfect cosy, immersive read to snuggle up with and get lost in this time of year. I loved it even more than The Thirteenth Tale.
