I genuinely believe the romance in this series would have hit a lot harder if it was more of a slow burn. Our love interests get together pretty quickly, and the intimacy is mainly physical. The sex scenes are also pretty lackluster. The descriptions are pretty vague and… honestly, boring. You’d think two warriors who communicate through actions better than they ever could through words would be a little more wild and passionate during sex, but uh. Nope. Pretty boring and vanilla.

Those personal gripes aside, I love everything else about this story. Watching Thea’s growth is exciting. The relationship with her sister is refreshing and realistic. Cal and Kipp I will forever love. The double plot twist was great.

I’m excited to read the next book!

It would have been a 3 ("it's a book and i read it") but holy smut, Batman. There's nothing i like more than listening to a well written fantasy novel while parenting when BAM! I have to skip through at least 5 minutes of smut.

“Life is too short - yours, in particular - to hold grudges against the people you love.”

Vows and Ruins continues right after the ending of the 1st book, with Althea finally being an apprentice to the infamous Warsword.
I really enjoy reading through Althea’s journey on become a Warsword while also trying to master her hidden power.

As for the romance, it was a wild ride of push and pulling between Althea and Wilder. The tension between them is so high which makes the level of spiciness higher compare to the 1st book – Blood & Steel.

While this story has a lot of twists, dark secrets and betrayal we also got some answers to the mystery of the prophecy and a glimpse of the truth from Althea’s past.
I miss Kipp and Cal since the story focuses more on Althea and Wilder, but I think we’ll be seeing more of them with Althea judging by the end of this book.

The last few chapters are my favorite part with the battle scene and a magnificent show of power from Althea.
Then, there’s that shocking twist at the end! I didn’t believe that for a second! I believe there’s an explanation from that last chapter!

Overall, this was a great addition to this series with fantastic writing style and loveable characters which makes it so hard to put down!
I’m looking forward to read the next one and my only wish is the third book will come put asap!!

Thank you to Book of Matches Media and author for giving me an e-ARC of the book and for having me on this book tour. I’m leaving this review voluntarily!
