Can someone come pick my jaw off the floor? That ending has me in shambles. I had not been expecting it in the slightest.
We got a lot of spicy moments with Thea and Wilder which I personally enjoyed but I also thinks it plays perfectly into building up for that ending and the betrayal. Thea was becoming SO intimate with Wilder and falling in love body and mind…then the betrayal happens when we least expect it.
Honestly, I’m still reeling in all the little comments Wilder made and his actions that added up to his ultimate downfall. Obviously, there’s more that we will come to find out in Fate & Furies because you cannot convince me that Wilder is “a bad guy,” it’s just not possible.
But I loved what a badass Thea became in this book, she grew as a warrior and make herself a force to be reckoned with. Her rage at the end makes me so excited to see how she’s going to be wielding it in the next book. I’m also curious to explore Torj and Wren more, I think there’s something there. And, of course, I want to know what really happened with Anya and Delmaria - we’re obviously missing a LOT of pieces.

I genuinely believe the romance in this series would have hit a lot harder if it was more of a slow burn. Our love interests get together pretty quickly, and the intimacy is mainly physical. The sex scenes are also pretty lackluster. The descriptions are pretty vague and… honestly, boring. You’d think two warriors who communicate through actions better than they ever could through words would be a little more wild and passionate during sex, but uh. Nope. Pretty boring and vanilla.
Those personal gripes aside, I love everything else about this story. Watching Thea’s growth is exciting. The relationship with her sister is refreshing and realistic. Cal and Kipp I will forever love. The double plot twist was great.
I’m excited to read the next book!
