This was an amazing reading adventure! I felt again like a child, hidden in an attic, like Bastian, reading a story but also feeling and living it on my skin. I felt with Bastian and also with Atreyu. More than once I cried and more than once I wanted to talk to them or scold them, above all Bastian. It was a long time I didn't feel this way while reading a book and it was such a good feeling.
This isn't only a book for children, not at all. When I finished the book, the first question that came to my mind was: "When did I stop dreaming?" I felt void because I forgot when I stopped dreaming and I was now missing that childhood part of me. As an adult, life brought me to be convinced that dreams are only a waste of time and I consider myself a realist and a rational and practical person. I was also a little bit afraid to pick up this book because Fantasy is not a genre I usually read but now I'm really very glad I read it because it gave me back a piece of my childhood, when I was still able to dream.
As said, it isn't only a book for children. One of the messages is also that to find ourselves we have to lose ourselves. This is so true though not easy to understand. We can find ourselves, our inner essence, only when we strip off everything: from the way we see ourselves or think we are to the way others see us, from what we think we would like to be to all the masks we wear. In order to rise, we have to touch the bottom. Only from that deep and dark bottom we are again able to arise with a new conciousness of ourselves and find our way through life. And this too is a long and difficult adventure.
I absolutely recommend this book to everyone, above all to "old" ladies like me that stopped dreaming many many years ago.

Still as beautiful as I remember it. The last time I read the Neverending Story, I was a child and loved it. Now that I’m semi-grown, I know how rare it is to find the same truths in a story ten years later, and I love it even more. It‘s really rare to find books that make my inner reader and my inner writer equally happy, and this one really is unparalleled. It’s deeply imaginative, and deals with both hurtful truths and honest hopes. It’s such an experience. It’ll always remind me just how much I love stories, and of all the reasons why.
