I overall liked this book very much. It had a nice nostalgic feeling to it. There is actually not a lot happening but I still found the story engaging. Only thing that bothered me a bit: it's called a coming-of-age story but Mary Jane was almost the only mature voice in this story. She understood everything that happened around her and always came to the right conclusion. Since she was supposed to be 14, I found that to be a bit far stretched.

I'm not usually one for a coming-of-age story, but I really enjoyed this one. This would've been five stars if the ending didn't feel a little too convenient. Everything was tied together with a bow despite the fact that there was no sign of a ribbon until the last thirty pages. Weird metaphor, probably. But it makes sense to me.
