Well done new adult angst with rock-band drama, bullies, and a nice guy who eventually does get the girl.

I was offered a copy of More Than Exes for review but I initially hesitated, I wasn't sure I had the time to fit in another review book, but I also thought this came after More Than Music, and was worried I would miss out on something as my memory is kinda hazy. When I looked into it more I realised it was set before More Than Music, but that it was also a short read, one that I could fit in easily between books, after this revelation I quickly got my copy of More than Exes.

More Than Exes follows Jarred, Kyle, and Villain Complex before we meet them in More Than Music. We get to see them as they enter the competition, but also deal with the past, and some current issues.

More Than Exes was a quick read and I really liked getting to see the band before more than music, and seeing what lead them to The Sound. The past that comes back to bite Kyle in the butt wasn't one I expected, and had actually forgotten about this character which made the progress of their 'relationship' even more eventful and surprising. Seeing Jared through his brothers eyes was an enlightening experience, and definitely explains a moment in More Than Music.

I liked getting to see familiar faces from More Than Music, it just added that little bit extra to blend these stories together. The covers for these books are also spectacularly amazing, and I really love how they are so similar, but different in their own way, and you can definitely tell they are part of a series.
My only issue is once I got into the story I wish it could have been longer, even though that completely counteracts my statement above.

I got this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The standard of novella. Less conflict and simple story. Maybe you will curious about Jade, maybe not. But in someway, the relationship between Kyle and Alexis is quite good to follow. Kyle is a good guy in disguise. Whatever Kyle do, Alexis still believe that Kyle is the one who can fix the mess.

It's good for a light reading, imho.

Elizabeth Briggs is offering a copy of More Than Exes free if you subscribe to her updates, so of course I had to before reading More Than Music. It's an excellent prequel, introducing you to the band and two of the main characters you'll read about in the series in their individual books. Kyle Cross is band mate, and little brother, to Jared, the guy who always get the girl. Kyle is the keyboardist in Villains Complex, he looks like the bad guy, but he screams good guy and everyone knows it. Their band is competing in the Battle of the Bands against rival school USC and everything is going against them. With the help of his ex-girlfriend, Alexis, who he hasn't seen in years and considers the one who got away, Kyle works to get his entire band together and compete for the spot they know they deserve. Past problems between Alexis and Kyle may keep them apart though, will this night bring them back together and start the future of Villains Complex?

I really enjoyed Kyle and Alexis, they're a cute couple, especially as you read about their past history prior to their breakup. They are the couple least expected and it brings out a change in everyone. Elizabeth Briggs tells you just enough to get you attached to their past and gives you just enough glimpse into the bands past to have you really hoping for some good in their lives. This prequel will definitely get you excited for the Chasing The Dream series. Unfortunately, I really want more of Kyle and Alexis now and so far books 1 through 4 do not feature them.
