Ellie is turning seventeen soon. She can't wait, because it means getting a new car and... new powers? During a quiet late night walk, Ellie runs into a reaper, a horrific creature bent on destroying her. Luckily, new boy Will shows up out of the blue to help her survive the attack. And then he sticks around to help Ellie learn who she is and what she was born to do. Pretty heavy stuff, no? As Ellie's nightmares become actual memories, she not only comes to accept the role she was chosen to lead, but also takes charge of her destiny.

As with so many angel-themed books coming out these days, I was looking forward to reading this one. The cover and blurb didn't capture my attention as much as some of the other books out there, but I was still going to give this one an honest shot. Unfortunately, I did not like it. And honestly, it was a tough stretch to finish it. The characters of Ellie, Will, and everyone else were really shallow. Ellie was super strong and independent, except when she spent half her time whining to Will that she needed him. And her father was extremely harsh without cause or reprimand from Ellie or her mother. The paranormal elements seemed far-fetched and forced. The reader is thrown into the Grim headfirst and there are tons of names and places to keep track of. A little overwhelming. What I did like was the fact that Ellie actually felt the physical effects of her new born powers after she used them. It's only natural that a girl feel tired and achy after such battles! Moulton also writes fairly graphic and exciting fight scenes, which I think I would have enjoyed more if I were actually invested in the lives of the characters. The end of the book wrapped up nicely, but there were still a lot of questions left unanswered. The second book in the series, Wings of the Wicked is due out next year, but I do not think my interest will be strong enough to read further into Ellie's world.

Pretty badass. Not a favourite, and wouldn't re-read it or anything, but it was quite entertaining and refreshing. Will read any sequels for sure. The male lead was a darling, the dad a bit unrealistic though.

As always I'll be honest with you guys; I really struggled to finish this novel and I had several issues with the story. The main character, Ellie, was over a thousand years old but stories of her past lives were almost non existent. I would have loved to get to know much more about her past. I guess it will be revealed bit by bit throughout the series but the novel could have been so much better if some more tidbits about Ellie's past had been told. I understand the concept that she was to remember the past by herself but her guardian, Will, answered 99 % of her questions with something like "you'll remember it in time". To be honest that annoyed me.

The fight scenes seemed to unrealistic and I couldn't feel the chemistry between Will and Ellie. That being said I felt the hatred in the character that was Ellie's father, it felt so real and I disliked him instantly.

I don't doubt that Moulton is a gifted writer but to me it seems like the novel could have been so, so much better. But then again we can't love them all and this is only my personal opinion.

At almost 5% of the book, I realized this isnt for me. There is nothing extraordinary to write home about in the author's style of writing, and the fantasy world she created isn't doing much to me. This certainly is not the world I want to get lost in my thoughts or imagine when I am idel.
And so instead of wasting more time , I decided to give this up.

I met the fabulous author of Angelfire, Courtney Allison Moulton, way back in January during the Dark Days Tour. When I went to the panel, I hadn’t even known who she was. But I loved her so much that I bought a copy of Angelfire. And now that I’ve finally gotten around to reading this book, I must say that I’m so glad I bought it! Angelfire was an enjoyable book, with some really great characters and mythology.

There are some really great characters in this book. At first, I wasn’t very fond of our main character, Ellie. But as the story progressed, she really grew on me, and by the end of the book I was totally rooting for her. I also really liked Will. He was so… layered. And there’s just something about him that you have to love. The banter between Ellie and Will was also really fun to read, both use sarcasm well. There were also some really great secondary characters I enjoyed reading about.

The plot of this book was really intriguing. You just did not want to stop reading! I was hooked while reading Angelfire. And there were some really great plot twists I didn’t see coming, especially that huge one at the end! It’s always great when I can’t see something coming in a book. For me, that just adds to the enjoyment factor of the book.

The mythology of this book was unique. There’s demons, reapers, angels, and much much more! It was all so fascinating to read about. However, I was confused by the mythology at times. At some points in the story, there’s just so much information dumped, especially about the mythology, that I was so overwhelmed and couldn’t understand it all. I may have to reread this one before I read the second of this series, because there was just so much information to process, that I’m afraid I missed something.

Also, the writing of this book was just a tad bit too plain for my taste. However, this is understandable, since Angelfire is this author’s debut novel. I’m hoping that the writing style will be a bit better in the next book. I definitely think that’ll add a lot more to the story.

Overall, Angelfire was a enjoyable book with great characters, a fabulous plot, and original mythology. Even though I was confused at times, and the writing wasn’t the best out there, I would recommend Angelfire to those of you who like mythology, or want a unique story. I will definitely be getting a copy of the second book in this series!

When I first saw Angel Fire I didn't actually pick it up because the title had screamed at me. No,I picked it up because I saw an awesome sword but, hey, after I read the summary I realized that I had gotten a great read. The first page had me entranced. I mean, the first page was really nothing special but to me, being able to get into the teenage mind with such ease is an accomplishment that kept me going.
Angel Fire may start off a little slow... oh wait, she spots Will right after she leaves school in the 1st chapter. After that the story really begins with Ellie learning from Will (after giving up on avoiding him) that she is the Preliator, destined to destroy the Reapers who kill humans and send their souls to Hell. As Ellie comes to accept this, Courty Allison Moulton writes out the rest Angel Fire amazingly making a beautifully written first book in the Angel Fire Trilogy. Amazing!

Courtney Allison Moulton's debut novel introduces a world of reapers, angels, and one seemingly human teenage girl. The story is probably one of the most unique stories I have read and I was hooked from the beginning.

Ellie was a bit of a wimp at first but that quickly changed. I had heard that she was a great heroine but I didn't know how true that was until I read the book. Ellie was badass! She was fierce, brave, protective, and courageous yet she still had her scared and vulnerable moments. She was very real. Will was dark, mysterious, and a but moody but he quickly grew on me. He was just as fierce as Ellie and they were great together. Neither of them overshadowed the other. Kate, Nathaniel, and Lauren were also fabulous characters. Yay for best friends who don't backstab you!

The plot of Angelfire was extremely fast-paced. Ellie is thrown into this world of reapers and she doesn't get a training period. These guys are out to get her and they are EVIL! There is a ton of action and I really think this book could appeal to both guys and girls because of that. =)

Overall, Angelfire is a must-read, in my opinion. I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to read it!
